So I've been messing around with some flies that have worked very well for me in the past. One being the Grizzly Hackle Bugger, I took this fly and added some purple ultra chenille in the thorax region, this just gives the fly a touch more color and character. The peacock herl in which this fly mostly consists of, is magic. Something about peacock herl drives fish crazy, in my opinion. Tungsten bead and lead wrap really puts the fly in the zone. I've experimented with purple marabou in the tail as well.
This next fly is a streamer and it is a rendition from the Sculpin Leech pattern, this fly also has an articulated concept in the works. Two rabbit zonker strips glued together with a stacked wool head, and barbell eyes. The rabbit strips quiver in the water and the wool head gets after it pushing water, this pattern has all the makings of bringing your line tight. The red flash beard just back from the head gives the pattern some glints of simmer and the eyes really set it off. This was tied on a #2 long shank Dai-Riki streamer hook, with a lead wrapped body. Sinks well and gets down quickly. Multiple colors are a must as well.
How heavy are those eyes in the bottom streamer Isaiah? What are they made from?
ReplyDeleteThey are 1/4 inch, they didn't give an exact weight but they are made by Spirit River and are around $4.oo U.S for a dozen. Made from brass they have the eye portion machined into the brass unlike the barbells with stickers for eyes, these seem pretty tough.
