Into the Wild-Book Review

Years ago I watched the movie Into the Wild, based off the book by Jon Krakauer. It was entertaining at that point but it wasn't until later when I read the book and then watched the movie again, did I have a better grasp on the concepts and was in turned moved by its message.  The book gave a new outlook to the movie for me, Krakauer talks about other adventure seekers and the allure of travel and freedom from tangible objects can have for certain people.  The idea of leaving life as we know it behind and just going out and living, truly living away from everything that we know as normal, is a powerful notion. Having a small experience similar to this on my trip down to New Zealand I can relate and understand some of these individuals' desire to experience life in an in-your-face true setting.  The book allows you to think about your own life and makes you question everything that you know and are used to. Very good read, it gives you some more information about McCandless (the main character) and different insight on the story altogether.

"So many people live within unhappy circumstances and yet will not take the initiative to change their situation because they are conditioned to a life of security, conformity, and conservatism, all of which maybe appear to give one peace of mind, but in reality nothing is more damaging to the adventurous spirit within a man than a secure future. The very basic core of a man's living spirit is his passion for adventure. The joy of life comes from our encounters with new experiences, and hence there is no greater joy than to have an endlessly changing horizon, for each day to have a new and different sun. If you want to get more out of life, you must lose your inclination for monotonous security a adopt a helter-skelter sytle of life that will first appear to you to be crazy. But once you become accustomed to such a life, you will see its full meaning and its incredible beauty." Jon Krakauer (Into the Wild)
