Student gets B- on Final Exam

After years of exposure to fishing is fighting, old man must pass final to leave to go home or freeze in the tough Wyoming winters---the young teacher is allowing the old man to go home

Pap says thanks
Lonnie has been somewhat of my protege over the past couple of years and in his last few days in the west we manged to get out and beat the water. He has come far in reading water and executing casts and fly selection. On his last morning here we shot up to some local water, fishing was tough and toward the end of the morning he took some direction and made the perfect drift through this tough pocket behind a rock and this brown trout crushed it. Nice work pap, keep educating the youth of America. Good time this summer pal, thanks again.

Smiles all around

Northwest WY is a phenominal place to learn to fish. I had the pleasure of taking a father and his son out from Texas. I was a little concerned initially about a full day with an eight year old, but Thomas is a wonderfully smart little boy that loved to learn about fly fishing. We had a great trip and caught heaps of fish. Here are a few pictures from the day.

Congrats Spence and Charlie

Well I had the privilege to be the Best Man for a great friend of mine, Spencer Reid as he married he beautiful bride Charlie Florom. Of course the day of the wedding its the best man's job to keep the groom occupied and on schedule. We headed fishing...naturally. Here is Spence's wedding fish, haha not huge but pretty sweet anyhow. Congratulations to the happy couple, we all had a great time.

Days turn into Weeks

Everything continues to fish very well around these parts, with anglers reporting great success in most of our local waters. Fish are looking up on a regular basis on all the tributaries and fish are eating well under the surface here on the lower reaches.  The weather has been beautiful without any signs of smoke or major fires in the area. Rains were welcomed and much needed last week so the rivers are still very productive. Here are some pictures from the adventures we've been having up here.

Mayfly Madness

Smoky Sunset timed perfectly
Here in the Wind River valley the mayflies along with many other bugs have started to emerge and take flight. There is no other fish food like the mayfly, light on their wings heavy in their beauty.

Unmatched Beauty

Living here is Dubois, WY you can't help but appreciate the beauty that you are surrounded by. Here are just a few pictures of the local area. Pretty wild country, watch for bears.

Brook's Lake, there was a grizzly sow and two cubs at the head of this lake that day. Needless to say we didn't end up hiking around the lake.

It's Summertime and the Livin' is Easy

Well things are about to be in full swing for these parts, the Wind River Valley is clearing nicely and heaps of bugs are popping. Fishing reports are good for many other areas of the state as well and I look forward to the next couple of weeks of fishing.  This past week I've been fortunate enough to run several trips that really went well and that were extremely successful.

I finally got settled back into Northwestern WY, I have been busy. But things are good and the rivers are clearing more and more daily. I feel that shortly things are going to be full on and fishing is going to be red hot. I've noticed a few salmon flies have been hatching but the fish aren't eating the adults, not sure if they will this year. But the subsurface bite is still on and fish are actively eating well presented nymphs. When the weather has cooperated I've been getting out and fishing some of the waters and looking at water condition, we are obviously way ahead of last years schedule and soon to be enjoying summer fishing.

Back at it for the summer

Alright folks, I know it's been a while but it's time to get back into the swing of things. After a relatively quiet winter it's about summertime again, and with summer apparently means dream living and fishing, so here we go. I'll be back in the beautiful town of Dubois running trips all over the central northwestern area of Wyoming. I've been doing quite a bit of fishing for myself lately and am looking forward to a great summer with manageable water levels. Lets hope for a great season. Cheers
