Winter Fishing

So yesterday was the first time that I've been able to get out and flyfish since August. Ridiculous, I'm well aware. Well we made the long drive and headed North to our famous tailwater here in WY. The fishing was spot on, we moved many many fish with several particular ties and the correct rig setup. My group of guys did exceptional and the others fishing around us were given a free fishing clinic, haha. Although there were many fish caught only several were of much size. Most fish were 15-16 inch rainbows with several that were crouching twenty with one at 22. It was a beautiful day with low wind speeds and the sun shining. Wonderful Wyoming, gotta love it

Winter....

Well missing out on winter last year and getting a full serving of its wrath now, is pretty much getting me down. But no worries, I've been out shooting a few birds and trying to keep busy. I'm winding down my last few days here in Nebraska, and am getting excited to be back around my stomping grounds seeing my friends and family. I was breaking ice for the bird dogs and was recalling where I was last year at this time...South in New Zealand. I feel the need to share some warm photos from down there today, if not for anyone else then for myself. Enjoy

Fall is in Full Swing

Well most of us here in the northern hemisphere have felt a touch of winter already this season. Although the fall has been relatively beautiful here in Arapahoe Nebraska it sounds like Wyo has had it's far share of wintry weather. With the cooling temperatures comes harvest time and along with the harvest comes wingshooting. After an enjoyable trip to South Dakota chasing roosters, the desire to get out there and do it came over me. So we decided to take off after work and try it last night...it went well. Several incredible "points" by my hunting partner's shorthair topped the evening off. Here we go.... hopefully I'll enjoy a few more successful trips this season. Stay warm out there, and for those down South good luck chasing clean water.

Crazy Weather Out West

There has been some wild weather over the last couple months, here are a few shots from a couple of my outtings. The clouds were located over the city of cheyenne and the formations are unreal. The "DOUBLE RAINBOW" from the second set of pics is the brightest rainbow I've ever seen in my life it was super intense. I just happen to notice it in my rearview mirror headed back to town, pretty incredible.

Platte River Wildlife

Growing up in Cheyenne and going to school in Laramie has brought me to consider the Upper North Platte River my home river. Here are a few pics from a trip we had down the Platte a couple weeks ago.

To My Loyal Followers

So things have been crazy like always in my life. I've since finished my work in Dubois and then worked all last week up on the lower Platte near Casper. Pretty tough conditions but we put a few fish in the boat, not the best I've seem the lower Platte fish but we made by. Fished for myself this past weekend caught a few nice little wild brownies in a creek that no one thinks has fish in it, perfect I guess. The hoppers are in full swing and the things are everywhere. I've got a ton of pictures to get up on this thing but I haven't taken the time to sit down and do it. We have booked our tickets to Spain for the first couple weeks of November, which should be a good time. I dropped several hundred dollars yesterday on shotgun shells in preparation of the oncoming dove/grouse/early waterfowl season. So like always I'm not standing still, I'm headed to Nebraska this afternoon to iron out the details for my fall occupation of working on a pheasant hunting farm operation.  Til next time.

Go PRO HD video

So a fishing partner of mine first mentioned this little camera to me at the beginning of this year. I have checked it out and it looks freaking sweet. Some of us most definitely could find several uses for such a device. Check them out freaking sweet.

Whats Going on?

Hey to all the followers as you can probably tell the last couple weeks haven't been super conducive to my regular blogging schedule. But anyhow I haven't forgot about the Chronicles....I'm still alive just a little different daily routine than I've had for the summer. So we were slowing down well enough for me to pursue other opportunities around Wyoming. I've got three float trips on the North Platte this week and I'm building with a contractor on the off days. I just got back from several days in Southern Utah traveling around with a friend (hero shot of the week Santa) as he Judged some Livestock shows. Slipped into the Casinos in Colorado on our way home, won a few bucks, enjoyed our 6 dollar prime rib and kept moving. I'm currently in Cheyenne back and forth from Laramie and Casper. Laramie is still running a few trips out of Dubois and the Fishing should be getting flat after it. I'll be trying to update the blog when I can but it won't be like it was....But I appreciate your patronage still.

Whats Going on

So we have been super busy lately running trips and trying to squeeze in a few minutes for ourselves on the river as well. But it has been a knock out couple of weeks and we have another super busy week this week. But we are catching fish, the Wind River is still off color and a touch high, but it is clearing everyday. The mountain lakes and streams are fishing well. I have some pictures I've been meaning to post but my camera is misplaced at the moment. I'll work on getting a few more posted up this week. I've got trips the next two days, then possibly headed south to Cheyenne this weekend.  Go Fish

FOAL - Double Style

Andrew Hearne a good friend of mine from Chirstchurch, NZ has his FOAL on display this fine July day. This was Andrew's first recorded Double...or Double figured fish (at least ten pounds or bigger). This concept is rather new to me and the States as well. We usually measure all our fish in inches, not necessarily in pounds but over in NZ its all in pounds. This makes sense to understand the condition of a trout and truly show its' build.  A guy can have a 24" trout that weighs 4 pounds or have a 24" trout that weighs 9 pounds, it just depends on the condition. Anyhow awesome fish, and congrats on the double.

Jeff Everitt with a lower North Platte Brown Trout Fall 08
A good friend of mine and also my employer for several years Jeff Everitt caught this beautiful Brown trout on a lower section of the Platte here in WY. It was a tough day but he picked up this fish nymphing after a quick nymphing lesson. Beautiful fish.

Christmas in July

Finally my massive fly tying material order arrived yesterday, I've been super busy the last couple days. Two trips in two days, so it will be good to sit down and do some tying. Some pretty sweet new materials. Check them out.

Fishing is Picking up

So we've been out quite a bit lately and I've started fishing here on the Wind River right behind the shop and am consistanty catching fish, finally. The clarity still isn't great but the river has lowered quite a bit and it won't be long now.

Little meat eater....I caught a much nicer fish yesterday but I didn't have a camera, typical.

Sucker on the fly, notice the perfect hook set haha sick.

The Dr.Slick company has so many products that pertain to fishing that it is hard to pick just one to feature this week. They have some really functional tools and other equipment ranging from on the water to on the tying bench. I have used their nippers/forceps/lanyards/tying tools for quite a while now. They make some really nice things check them out.

T.P.O.T.W

These pictures are from many years back. Laramie and I took a trip up to the country that I'm currently living in and caught these two monsters in two days. It was a pretty epic trip, I guess this trip sparked my love for monster trout. Spring 2006

Lake City, USA

So as many of you know the water is still a touch off and high so what are two trout fishermen suppose to do with their free time. I suppose chase fish in the local lakes. This freaking pig Lake Trout was caught minutes from the shop in a public lake on a fly rod. This fish ate a monster streamer. So after I chased him down in the drift boat, after Laramie was twenty yards into his backing we got him turned and we got him to the net. Freaking sickly fat fish, length 28 3/4 Inches but huge everywhere else. Needless to say we are still soaking it in. Awesome fish on a fly rod,..... We need a weigh net. Beautiful Wind River Valley monster trout.
